How to Find Motivation to Lose Weight

The sad truth is the vast majority of us find it exceedingly difficult to lose weight. Oh it’s easy enough to say I’m going to go on a diet tomorrow or the day after or next year sometime… maybe. It’s even relatively easy to actually make a start. Even if you manage to find the easiest way to lose weight we all know the difficult part is actually sticking to the plan. Within a few hours or days or perhaps weeks we begin to find an endless stream of reasons (excuses) to abandon the idea of losing weight altogether and eat that delicious bar of chocolate instead.

If you analyse it properly though probably the number one reason why we fail to lose weight is because we don’t have sufficient motivation to lose weight in the  first place. It stands to reason then that if we can somehow find good enough reasons to lose weight, success should be guaranteed.

Whether that is true or not one thing is for sure… without sufficient motivation to lose weight we simply won’t stick to our diet long enough to make a real difference.

The big question therefore is… How can I motivate myself to make the necessary changes for long enough to get the results I want?

Personally I’m a big believer in using both the carrot and the stick method to motivate myself into doing things that I know I should do, but I’d really rather not do.

Here are my best  weight loss motivation tips:

Firstly, think of all the many health advantages for losing weight. If your mind is a blank do some research. You will be amazed at the number of health benefits to be derived from being the ideal weight for your age, sex and height. Then make a list of all these benefits and look at it every day.

On the same piece of paper make and read every day a list of all the disadvantages for being overweight. Again do some research…the list of potentially fatal diseases known to be associated with obesity is frighteningly long. If that doesn’t scare you into action perhaps nothing will.

Next you need to make similar advantages and disadvantages lists relating to your social life, then your romantic life, followed by how being overweight affects you at work etc, etc.

Make these lists for every important facet of your life and read them every single day. And if you find yourself weakening get them out and read them again. Read them all day if you have to.

If you find yourself getting stressed out you need to find a way to get rid of that stress without reaching for a cookie. Personally, I’m a fan of having a really good massage to soothe away my troubles. If you can’t afford to hire a professional masseuse  a great alternative is to buy a shiatsu massage cushion. You can get them on Amazon for massive discounts. But whatever method you choose to help you over difficult times you should ask yourself this question,  is this  harmful to me or helpful?

Losing weight is a long term goal and there will be times when you are tested. But if you follow the above plan every day, you will find your resolve and motivation to lose weight growing ever stronger, and your lack of success along with your excess weight I promise you will be a thing of the past.
